What is Dark Psychology?

It is both the study of criminal and deviant behaviour and a conceptual Framework for deciphering the potential for Evil within all human beings. Dark psychology is a study of the human condition as it relates to the psychological nature of the people to prey upon other people motivated by criminal and/or deviant derives that lack purpose and general assumptions of instinctual drives and social science theory.

Why understanding dark psychology is important?

Dark psychology seeks to understand those thoughts, feelings, perceptions and subjective processing systems that leads to predatory behaviour which is antithetical to contemporary understanding of human behaviour. Dark psychology assumes that criminal, Deviant and abusive behaviours are purposive and have some Rational, goal oriented motivation almost 99% of the time. It is the remaining 1% Dark psychology differs from Alderian theory and the theological approach. Dark psychology postulate that there is a region within the Human Psychology which enable some people to commit atrocitious acts without any purpose. In this theory, it is has been coined as the dark psychology.

Why do we need to keep secrets people as per Dark Psychology?

People can protect the reputation and their relationship with close others. Michael selpian Professor at Columbia Business School along with his team of researchers found that the real problem with keeping a secret is not one want needs to hide it, but one needs to live with it and think about it. Shame, protecting privacy, protecting oneself or others from being hurt can be another important factor here. Avoiding conflicts and the repercussions of disclosing certain information, avoiding social stigma, managing and controlling social relations, gaining advantage and specific area of life are all purposes of keeping a secret.

Let's talk about the 10 defence mechanism by Sigma Freud.

1) Repression- not allowing painful or dangerous thoughts to become conscious.
2) Denial- refusing to acknowledge the existence of source of anxiety.
3) Projection- attributing one’s own unacceptable desires to others.
4) Rationalization- creating socially acceptable reasons to justify being denied by others.
5) Reaction formation- acting in opposition to what one fears to acknowledge.
6) Displacement- displacing hostility to an object onto a safe substitute.
7) Regression- retreating from an unsetting conflict from an upsetting conflict to an earlier development stage to assuage anxiety.
8) Identification- adopting ideas and values of a superior.
9) Sublimation- Expressing sexual or Aggressive energy in socially acceptable ways.
10) Intectualization- Accepting a distanced attitude on quite unpleasant issues.
